Sneak peak and a mystery...

Where did the time go today!   I completely ignored housework, (well, I did run the dishwasher...) and spent most of the day working on a couple of fun projects.

I can only show a little peak of the first project.  I'm one of seven ladies in a small quilt group... we call ourselves BOWTIES.  We meet the first Monday evening of the month, and in years past we usually just brought whatever we wanted to work on during our get togethers.  Last year, and moving into this year, we decided to spend more time trying new things, and challenging ourselves with group projects.  Last fall we decided to pick a medium sized quilt pattern that we would each make.  This was our choice.

Of course, we have rules...

We can use a layer cake, (pattern is designed for a layer cake), or we can use other fabric, as  long as the layer cake or the fabric we use is from our existing stash.  This includes backing, and binding.  Due date:   Our March 2013 meeting.

I pieced my blocks together in late December.  This morning I sewed the rows together.  I was lucky to find backing and binding fabric in my stash that will coordinate well with the quilt top, but I'm must make a run to my LQS for batting.  The finished size will be 51" square.  Here's a sneak peak!  I don't want to show too much... we like surprises!

Remembrance by Brannock and Patek - I purchased a
layer cake at the AQS Show in October of 2010!!!

Moving on...

I have been anxious to begin Darlene's Mystery Quilt step 2 every since  it was revealed on February 8th.  I always enjoy the process of picking and choosing my fabrics.  Today I made the 30 hourglass blocks needed.  They were time consuming, but I loved piecing them together!

5.5 inch squares - 15 light
15 medium/dark

They look so pretty grouped together!!!

Sewing the hourglass blocks into rows will have to wait until the upcoming weekday evenings.  It's always a joy to spend time in my sewing room after a day at work.   But no sewing tomorrow night...

...the two hour season finale of Downton Abbey will have my full attention!!!

  9. Always love your fabric choices. Is that I line you are using for the hourglass blocks? I love how hourglasses can also look like pinwheels if you shift your focus.
